There is a huge range of resources available to volunteers including training, equipment for hire, people who can offer advice, other community organisations and online information. These help us to provide a balanced and varied programme of activities for our young members.

All adult members and Young Leaders receive the quarterly guiding magazine by post from Girlguiding. This contains news and articles on various topics including programme resources.

We issue regular county bulletins and newsletters by email with news of events and information to support our volunteers as well as plenty of opportunities for our young members.

There’s so much going on in Wiltshire North that we can’t always wait for the next published newsletter to let our volunteers know! So we also have monthly e-mailings.

The County has some resources that can be borrowed for use with units. The table below shows the major items along with hire charges where applicable. See the downloads section of the Members’ Area for booking forms/terms and conditions for some items.

It is the responsibility of the person borrowing any equipment to organise collection and return of any resources. Please book in good time, so that suitable collection times can be arranged.

There is a large network of people who can help you.

Other Girlguiding volunteers in your area

You will be part of a district* – a local team of units and their leaders. Chat to other leaders at your district meetings, share ideas and experiences. Your district commissioner will let you know the date of your next district meeting. Many units get together to run events or activities and these are great networking opportunities both for volunteers and young members.

*Malmesbury division is organised by age sections rather than by districts

Your district commissioner is there to support you. She can give you advice and guidance on a range of topics and help you find answers to those elusive questions. She may need to refer to the division commissioner (the next level up) or one of the county commissioners. Commissioners of all levels exist to support good guiding at grassroots.

Advisers are volunteers appointed by the county who have a specialist area of knowledge and are willing to share that knowledge and experience. See the full list: About / County team.

If you are working on the Leadership Qualification or any other Girlguiding qualification, you will be allocated a mentor. This is someone who has experience of gaining the same qualification. Your mentor will help you to develop your skills and knowledge.

Trefoil Guild

Members of your local Trefoil Guild may be able to help out with events, unit meetings, badge testing, sharing skills and traditions, crafts, fundraising, administration and ideas. Many Trefoil Guild members will have had years of experience as leaders themselves and will be pleased to share that experience with you. Take a look at the 'About' page for information about Wiltshire North's Trefoil Guilds.

People in the community

This will vary hugely depending on your local area but may include Scouting leaders, schools, other charities, places of worship, GP, dentist, vet, shopkeeper. Many organisations and companies are keen to support guiding through joint activities, visits and talks.

We offer a wide range of training opportunities throughout the year, for volunteers of all levels of experience. The benefits of attending local trainings are more than just the content of the sessions, which obviously we hope will be useful! Trainings are also a great way of meeting other volunteers from across Wiltshire North and those unplanned conversations can be really valuable.

You will find the full range of training opportunities within the Volunteers section. We are always open to suggestions of other topics you would find useful. Please send any ideas you have to [email protected]

This is where resources really are limitless! You will find all sorts of craft, game and activity ideas online via websites, forums, social media and Pinterest amongst others. Below are some specific guiding resources which you may find useful:

County Facebook group – a closed group for Young Leaders and adult members within Wiltshire North

Girlguiding South West Region – resources, badges, events and more

Girlguiding – the national website - from here you will also find links to the youth websites (each age group has a website aimed at its young members)

WAGGGS – World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

Our county trading depot is where you can buy Girlguiding resources, badges and guiding wear. The depot stocks, or can order anything from the Girlguiding Essentials range and all profits made by our trading depot go directly back into local guiding to benefit our members.
