Sailing from Hartlepool to Holland -

The trip was organised by NE England, and was open to all Senior Section members in all Regions and Islands. SW England have the largest number going, including one Senior Section member from Chippenham and two from Wroughton.

There were 40 Senior Section members from around the country, plus 8 adults split over the four 72 foot long Challenger yachts. The girls left from Hartlepool Marina on Sunday 29th July heading for Holland, where they stopped over night. They then sailed back over to England, finishing at Portsmouth. The girls were split into red and blue watch, where they will take their turns doing 3 hour shifts during the day and night on watch duty whilst sailing.

County President & Vice Presidents' visits -

From Sue Coates - County President

As you know the Vice Presidents and I are helping the County by visiting various events in the County. If you would like to invite any of the Vice Presidents you can either contact them directly or you can email me at countypresident@wncounty.org.uk and I will arrange for one or more to attend your event. They are looking forward to seeing what is going on in the County.

So what have we been up to this summer.....

Campsite Fun Week - celebrating Queen's Diamond Jubilee and Diamond Anniversary of Chilton Farm Campsite.

On Monday 18 June, the Rainbows celebrated their 25th Birthday at both the Campsite and Maud Heath Centre. Gwen Knight visited the Campsite and I visited Maud Heath Centre. Both events were a great success with over 150 girls taking part.

On Tuesday 19 June, Gwen Knight and I visited the Brownies and Guides and I also visited on Thursday 21st when I was able to present Ali Sirrelle (Highworth and Parks Districts) with her 5 year Long Service Award.

It was good to see so many of the girls from all sections having fun on those evenings.

Indoor BBQ

On Friday 6 July, Gwen and I were invited to the Old Town District planned for Lydiard Park but relocated due to our English weather.  Sally Goddard kindly held it at her house. This was a gathering to say 'thank you' to Sue Scott who is retiring as a Unit Leader after many years. She is however not retiring completely - she is still the Booking Secretary for the campsite amongst other things. The evening was also to wish Emma Scott well on her travels. Emma is going to Australia for a year in October.

Intops Weekend (International Selection Weekend) 14/15 July at Maud Heath Centre led by Helen Yandell - International Advisor.

Fourteen girls spent two days experiencing different activities and getting to know each other hopeful of being selected to take part in a County trip or even to attend the Region Intops weekend later in the year with a possible Region trip next year. Gill Shaw - Outdoor Residential Advisor and Debbie Barbour - previous International Advisor visited on Saturday afternoon. Karen Jones - Assistant County Commissioner visited on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning the girls had a surprise awakening at 6.15 am and went off on an early morning hike. I visited them that morning to talk to them all indvidually - some looking rather tired!

They all seemed to have had an enjoyable weekend. Thank you to Helen and her team

Thanks from Lynne Harper -

Please pass on my sincere thanks to all who were involved in the thank you card and gift presented to me at the annual event.

I can honestly say I was surprised - I had not expected anything, mainly due to the early end to my appointment. I was very touched.

I have not yet decided exactly what to do with it - but I will let you know when I do.

It has been a great honour to lead the county, and please pass on my thanks to all for their support.

County Newsletter by email -

Congratulations to two Districts whose Leaders are now all receiving their County Newsletters. This will save the County lots in postage and copying, plus means that the newsletter is alway handy instead of getting lost in the pile of paperwork.

We now have about 1/6th of the county receiving the newsletter in this way.

Want to convert from paper to email copy? Email us at newsletter@wncounty.org.uk
